Freestanding: Most common design that features finished sides and a flat back that can sit flush against the back wall. It is the most affordable style as well as the easiest to install.
Slide-In: With unfinished sides and back, these models are designed to be built-in between two cabinets with a cooktop that overlaps the counter for a built-in look. There is a gap between the back of the cooktop and the wall, where usually a strip of countertop will be installed. The controls are always located on the front and the width is usually 30,” created to fit the popular island kitchen designs.
Drop-In: Similar to slide-in ranges, these models have unfinished sides and back as well as an overlay the counter and a gap between the wall. However, these models sit on top of a cabinet baseboard while a Slide-In touches the floor, giving it more pronounced built-in look.

Sealed Burners: Gas burners that are easier to clean and are most common for home owners.
Coil Elements: The coil sits above the cooktop surface or into a recessed cavity. The coils are more vulnerable to spills, but drip pans capture spills and are generally easy to access, remove and clean.
Smooth Top/Radiant: The radiant elements are installed beneath a glass surface presenting a sleek, integrated appearance. These cooktops are easy to clean. The radiant elements heat quickly and evenly. Ceramic glass cooktops are flat and require that you use flat-bottomed cookware.
Induction: These models work by using electromagnetic field to heat the magnetic cookware with more responsive cooking, temperature control, and more energy efficiency.
Open Burners: Gas burners that have an open space around the flame output area, providing more power. Most models feature removable drip plates that make cleaning easier.
